Spring Bees

I took the bait and bit hard ordering two 3lbs. packages of bees for pick up in May.  Always wanted to get myself into beekeeping.  Guess I have accomplished that at least in financial commitment.

My parents started off with a couple packages of bees. They ended up selling about 150 colonies a decade later. They still talk about buying another package or two of bees but then remember what happened the last time…

Its a great hobby… if you can keep it that way.

I’m simply hoping that I will have success with the two hives. I’m a complete neophyte to beekeeping, so the entire process will be an adventure in learning.

Ask This Old House recently did a two part episode on bee keeping that was quite informative for the novice. I’m guessing with the web these days, there is lots of information to keep you on the right path with your new hobby.

The ol’ inter-web is just chocked full of beekeeping info. Some of it seems very useful, some downright funny. Learning something new by doing something new has always tripped my trigger.

Good luck and best wishes! We had a couple of hives but lost them both last year. Planning to replace ours this spring and hoping for better results.

I’m hoping that I haven’t got myself into the same scenario as a boat or horse, both I consider holes that money is poured into.

Me too! But only one package. Bees have been on the wishlist for a long time and I figured I’d better do it.

I hope we both have a successful run at it Leigh.
