4H pigs have landed

We picked up Katy’s pigs which she will pick from to show at the county fair. Not a bad bunch to choose from. Seven in all. She can weigh-in three and show two, but only one can be sold at auction. One of the new arrivals will be gifted as the main course for our friends’ daughters wedding reception in July. So we will have a couple extra for any of the kids in our 4H club that haven’t found pigs yet.

That set of hams makes me smile.

Biscuit was not wanting to share me with the new pigs.

Katy was really enjoying getting to know her pigs. The names will soon be landing on the appropriate victim. Cosmo, Rocket Jr. and Cody are the first round. She’s putting some thought into the rest.

Robin…I took a picture of the inside detail for you on the pigs shelter. Just be sure that the height of the roof is a sufficient clearance from a full grown hogs back. Waist high is a good standard.

Cute pig shots. Lee and I are thinking about getting two weaner pigs this year so that should be an experience for us. I like the feeder shed in the background of the pictures. Do you have a post about it's intent or construction?

Robin..I didn't make a post on the construction of the shed. It was as simple as they come though. The roof tin was salvaged from a dormer off my brothers' restaurant. It is set on cedar fence posts and skirted with old floor joists of salvaged pine. It is intended as a shade/dry spot. Pink pigs will sunburn and no one likes to sleep IN the rain. Build sturdy though. Swine can tear up just about anything.

I was gonna ask about that feeder shed too! They are a great looking bunch. We want to eventually get pigs too, though it will be a year or two down the road. It's really nice these can be 4-H pigs. We loved 4-H.
